International Conference on “Strategic Partnership between Diaspora and Homeland”

Saturday, March 21, 2015

Nepalese Students’ Association (NeSA), New Mexico State University (NMSU) is pleased to invite you to submit presentation and poster proposals for its seventh annual conference incorporating the theme “Strategic Partnership between Diaspora and Homeland”.

Conference aims

In this increasingly interdependent and globalized world, Diaspora has emerged as a major developmental actor. It is widely acknowledged that the Diaspora with their augmented knowledge, capital and other social values are capable of making remarkable contribution to the political and socio-economic development of the homeland. The circulation and implementation of this treasure is of huge significance. However, especially in developing countries the Diaspora is only seen in terms of the remittance sent/brought home. Keeping this in mind the first part of our conference will focus on strategies that would be helpful to change the concept of remittance dependent definition of the Diaspora. This is done by highlighting the ability to bring about policy development and extract the knowledge of the people who are spatially and socially exposed to a diverse community. The second aim of the conference is to provide non-intimidating platform for young researchers to present their research. Graduate and undergraduate students from different discipline would present their research or literature related to their research. One of the key ideas here is to acknowledge the participation of many students for whom English is not a first language and thus, have a fear of presenting in English.
